Eugene "Gene" Erwin Gielow's Obituary
Eugene "Gene" Erwin Gielow, age 85, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 10:45 a.m. in Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehab., Pinckneyville, IL. Gene was born on January 4, 1932 in Conant, IL, a son to Louis and Eleonora W. (Zinke) Gielow. On October 27, 1956, he married Elinor "Nadine" Stanton in Conant, IL and she survives. Gene was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed farmer and worked at IPLA, Conant, IL and then later became a night watchman at Valley Steel. After retiring, he worked at the DuQuoin State Fair until he was 82 years of age. Gene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran Church, American Thresherman Association, American Legion, Steeleville, IL, and was secretary/treasurer for Pinckneyville Senior Citizens Club. He was a humble man who loved his family. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, flowers and especially enjoyed listening to Willie Nelson. Survivors include his wife, Elinor "Nadine" Gielow of Pinckneyville, IL; three daughters, Jeannie (Jim Bill) Gladson of Pinckneyville, IL, Elaine (Scott) Hoague of Herrin, IL and Lori (Tom) Sample of Cape Girardeau, MO; three grandchildren, Ryan Erwin of Pinckneyville, IL, Fletcher Hoague of Herrin, IL and Blake Sample of Cape Girardeau, MO; one cousin, Linda Brune of Nashville, IL; and sister-in-law, Virginia Cunningham of Tilden, IL. He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother-in-law, Charles Cunningham. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conant, IL on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend David Kollmeyer officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Conant, IL. Military graveside rites will be presented by Daffron-Presswood American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conant, IL from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The Steeleville American Legion will have a memorial service on Friday at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Conant, IL.
