Elvin "Rig" Rigdon's Obituary
Elvin "Rig" Rigdon, age 100 of Pinckneyville, IL passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 11:40 a.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL.
Rig was born on February 28, 1914 in Tilden, IL, a son to John and Mary (Todd) Rigdon. On September 27, 1943, he married Marjorie I. Lueker in Greensboro, NC and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2008. He was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during WW II. While in the service, he played on the baseball and softball teams and his wife Marjorie was the scorekeeper. Rig was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL, UMWA, Pinckneyville Lions Club and Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504. He was a coal miner in his younger years and then was self employed for many years doing sales and service on business machines. Rig was an avid rabbit hunter, raised beagles and was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include a son, Bob (Dee) Rigdon of Harlingen, TX; daughter, Terry Ashauer of O'Fallon, IL; four grandchildren, Amy Reynolds, Erica (Jeremy) Peuscholds, Heather (Mike) Bowman and Kristin (Randy) Hammersly; eleven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie Rigdon; grandson, Josh Terry and five sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Jay Lowder officiating. Interment will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Military services will be conducted by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504.
Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Least of the Brethren, Pinckneyville, IL or Pinckneyville Community High School Booster Club.
