Elaine Fae Foster's Obituary
Elaine Fae Foster, age 95, of DuQuoin, IL and formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 in Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation, Pinckneyville, IL.
Elaine was born on January 10, 1927, in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to Edgar S. and Bessie M. (Keene) Carson. On April 30, 1949, she married George Thomas Foster in Pinckneyville, IL and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1978. Elaine graduated in 1944 from Pinckneyville Community High School. After graduation, she worked several years as a telephone operator in Pinckneyville, IL. After the birth of her daughter, she became a homemaker. She stayed at home with her daughter until 1956. She then began working as an assembly line worker for P.R. Mallory in DuQuoin, IL, a job she held for twelve years. Elaine worked in the Green's Market Bakery then worked as a clerk for Friedman's Clothing Store. She also worked at the Ben Franklin Variety Store and The DuQuoin True Value as a clerk. Elaine ended her career at Horstman's Cleaners in DuQuoin, IL, where she retired. She was an active member of Du Quoin First Baptist Church, where she taught youth Sunday School for many years. Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandson, Jesse and great-grandchildren. She liked to travel and was always ready for a day out shopping and dining with family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia (Foster) Barge and her husband, Jesse William Barge of Murphysboro, IL; one grandson, Jesse Foster Barge and his wife, Julianna Barge of Murphysboro, IL; one great-grandson, Jesse Cooper Barge of Campbell Hill, IL; one great-granddaughter, Josephine Anne Barge of Murphysboro, IL; and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded by her parents, husband, and step-mother, Bertha Carson.
Graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 1 p.m. with Reverend Charles Allen officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
