Edgar B. Hale's Obituary
Edgar Bryant Hale, age 83, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 10:10 a.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL. Edgar was born on January 16, 1930 in Coulterville, IL, a son to James R. and Ella Louise (Thorman) Hale. On June 21, 1952, he married Janet Frassato at the United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL and she survives. Edgar served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, IL and a member of the Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL. He was employed by Consolidated Coal Company and later with Captain Mine until he retired in 1994. He was an officer with UMWA Local #1392 and a member of the Illinois Coal Board. Edgar also served as a member of the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Board, Swanwick Bethel Cemetery Association Board and was a member of Senior Life Solutions. Edgar was an avid sports enthusiast. During his early years he was active as a basketball, baseball and softball player and as an official. During his later years, he enjoyed following the Pinckneyville Panthers and assisting in preparing the softball field prior to games. Edgar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he especially loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Janet Hale; son, Greg (Liz) Hale; daughter, Dawn (Mark) Smith; five grandchildren, Kyle (Tiffany) Smith, Tyler (Emily) Smith, Taylor Smith, Bryant Hale and Garrick Hale; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Smith, Kolton Smith and Kaden Smith, all of Pinckneyville, IL; two nieces, Linda Jones of Coulterville, IL and Wilma Major of Cape Girardeau, MO; many great nieces; great nephews; brother-in-law, Bob Frassato of Pinckneyville, IL and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Loren, Donnie and Eugene; sister, Dorothy (Hale) Hood; and nephew, Alan Hale. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 in St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, IL at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Cindy Bean officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL. Daffron-Presswood American Legion Post #2504 will provide military honors. Friends may call at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Pinckneyville Panthers Softball Diamond Improvement Fund. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
