Edgar "Gene" Anderson's Obituary
Edgar "Gene" Anderson, age 83, of Elkville, IL, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 2:20 a.m. in his home. Gene was born on December 29, 1933 in Shawneetown, IL, a son to Leroy and Ruby (Oxford) Anderson. On November 1, 1967, he married Louise Garrett in Elizabethtown, IL and she survives. Gene was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He had worked at Seifert Brothers Trucking, DuQuoin, IL from 1967 until 1972, at Consolidation Coal Company #2 as a maintenance foreman boss until it shut down and then at Consolidation Coal Company #4. Gene was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed fishing and camping at Kentucky Lake and especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Louise Anderson; five daughters, Susan Anderson of Elkville, IL, Velvet (Jerry) Parrilli of Herrin, IL, Gail Lemasters of Herrin, IL, Johnna (Paul) Francis of Augusta, GA and Melody Ross of Elkville, IL; twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Anderson; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Anderson. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Elkville Cemetery, Elkville, IL with Pastor Darryl Williams officiating. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by DuQuoin V.F.W. and American Legion. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL is in charge of arrangements.
