Dorothy Mitchell's Obituary
Dorothy Mitchell, age 82, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 1:47 p.m., in Memorial Hospital, Carbondale, IL.
Dorothy was born on January 22, 1943 in Atlanta, GA, a daughter to Earl and Alta Smith. On February 6, 1965, she married James “Jim” Mitchell at First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, IL and he preceded her in death on July 22, 2019. She worked for Pinckneyville Community Hospital in dietary. Dorothy belonged to the Church Women’s United and First Ladies Fellowship at First Baptist Church. She enjoyed cross stitching, word searches, and puzzles. Her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren grow. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Hankla of Pinckneyville, IL and Michelle (Buddy) Dailey of Columbia, IL; and four grandchildren, Dorothy Nicole Hankla, Mitchell James Hankla, Caitlyn Jean Dailey, and McKenna Lynn Dailey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and loving husband, Jim.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and time.
