Doris M. Epplin's Obituary
Doris M. Epplin, age 95, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 8:50 p.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL.
Doris was born on July 6, 1927 in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to Ivan E. Hill and Sophia A. Avooski Hill. On September 27, 1949, she married Raymond Leo "Ray" Epplin in Pinckneyville, IL and he passed away on February 16, 2009 after almost 60 years of marriage. She was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Doris was involved in various church groups throughout her lifetime, including as a youth leader for the church C.Y.O. She had also served as a 4-H leader with the Pyatt Community 4-H group. Doris had worked as a secretary at Perry County Farm Bureau. She was a member of the home extension and enjoyed volunteering at Caring and Sharing Thrift Store, reading romance novels, socializing, gardening, bird watching, and going out to eat. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her three children, Dennis (Janis) Epplin of Mt. Vernon, IL, Denise (Bill) Thimmig of Pinckneyville, IL, and Terry (Cheryl) Epplin of Pinckneyville, IL; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Epplin of Pinckneyville, IL; five grandchildren, Andrea (Jeff) Puckett, Jenna Epplin (Jake Kressig), Jill Keller, Reggie (Lyndsey) Epplin, and Brianne (Eric) Williams; nine great-grandchildren, Dylan Keller, Daxen Deville, Sawyer Marie Durr, Elliot Williams, Chesney Epplin, Everleigh Epplin, Aubrey Keller, Chelsea Puckett, and Caitlyn Puckett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Anita Epplin; and a granddaughter, Jaime Epplin.
Funeral services will be at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, July 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Carl Schrage officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Caring and Sharing Thrift Store or St. Bruno Catholic Church.
