Donald L. "Don" McCrary's Obituary
Donald L. "Don" McCrary, age 86, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 8:42 a.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL. Don was born on September 28, 1930 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to James R. and Maxine (Burlison) McCrary. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. On May 1, 1953, he married Marie T. Schreiner at McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, KS and she preceded him in death on March 5, 1993. He had worked as a flight engineer and aircraft mechanic at Scott Air Force Base and later as a coal miner at Freeman United Electric Coal Company, DuQuoin, IL. Don was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL and UMWA. He enjoyed gardening, football, Nascar, collecting guns, shooting target practice and loved spending time with his family. Survivors include two sons, Brad McCrary of Pinckneyville, IL and Ronnie (Glena) McCrary of Carterville, IL; two daughters, Pam (Bob C.) Clark and Patty (Max) Epplin, both of Pinckneyville, IL; nine grandchildren, Jason, Carrie (Matt), Justin (Hillary), Katie (Brock), Brandon (Nicole), Brittany (Todd), Chad (Chris), Cortney and Chase; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Macie, Seth, Hunter, Holden, Easton, Abel, Sawyer, Hallie, Hudson, Madison, Max, Nora, Owen and Paisley. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie McCrary; and a son, Michael McCrary. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Doug Rice officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL with military graveside rites by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Pinckneyville Community High School Football Program.
