Donald Lee Keene, Jr.'s Obituary
Donald Lee Keene, Jr., age 65, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 8:50 a.m. in SIH Memorial Hospital Carbondale Emergency Room, Carbondale, IL.
Don was born on December 12, 1953, a son to Donald Lee and Joan (Joiner) Keene, Sr. On February 16, 1973, he married Pamela Commean at the First Baptist Church, DuQuoin, IL and she survives. He started his working career with Keene Road Builders and later with Don's Water Hauling & Repair. He always enjoyed visiting with his customers and lending a helping hand. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL where he enjoyed helping with the children's Sunday school, serving as RA leader, singing in the choir and assisting with leading the music, being a deacon and working as a part-time janitor. Don loved being a soloist for funerals and church functions, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Pam Keene of Pinckneyville, IL; three sons, Michael (Andrea) Keene of Pinckneyville, IL, Clinton (Lizzie) Keene of Jamestown, SC and Donald James "D.J." Keene of New Orleans, LA; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Hurt of DuQuoin, IL; two sisters, Diane B. Barker of O'Fallon, IL and Jacalyn M. Keene of St. Louis, MO; two grandchildren, Reid Michael and Ella Deborah Keene; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Jay Lowder and Brother Mark Lee officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Christian Activity Center, East St. Louis, IL, Angels' Cove Maternity Home, Mt. Vernon, IL or Baptist Children's Home, Carmi, IL.
