Donald L. Keene, Sr.'s Obituary
Donald L. Keene, Sr., age 81, of Pinckneyville, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 12:16 a.m. in his home. Donald was born on May 17, 1925 in Pinckneyville, a son to Dempsey H. and Edith M. (Taylor) Keene and grandson of John Willis Keene, past mayor of the City of Pinckneyville. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in Central Europe with Company B 1280th Engineering Battalion. He married Joan Joiner on August 4, 1951 in Pinckneyville and she survives. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville where he served as Deacon, Training Union Director, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir member. He was the owner and operator of Keene Road Construction for 40 years. Survivors include one son: Donald L. Keene, Jr. and his wife Pam, two daughters: Diane B. Barker and her husband David, and Jacalyn M. Keene, seven grandchildren: Michael L. Keene and wife Andrea, Clinton M. Keene, Donald James "D.J." Keene, Aubrey L. Barker, Timothy D. Barker, Emily R. Barker, and Natalee J. Barker, 1 great-grandson: Reid Michael Keene, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Dempsey M. Keene, one brother in infancy, and a sister: Margaret Robinson. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church on Monday, October 9, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Rick Hatley, Reverend Charles Boling, and Richard Vaughn officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites provided by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504. Friends may call at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m., on Monday from 8:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. and then at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial donations may be made to the Mary Kuykendahl Carpenter Heart Fund.
