Donald C. Hardin's Obituary
Donald C. Hardin, age 81, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 6:40 a.m. in Frankfort Care Center, West Frankfort, IL. Don was born on February 15, 1931 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Claude and Rosalie (Royster) Hardin. He was a veteran of the United States Army for three years where he proudly served in the Korean War earning a Bronze Star Medal and obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. On March 11, 1989, he married Diane Rushing Reese in Mayfield, KY and she survives. He had worked as a supervisor with General Telephone Company in Florida and retired in 1987 after 35 years of service. Don was a boy scout leader in Florida, a Mason, a former member of the American Legion, and loved woodworking, fishing and traveling with his wife in their motorhome. Survivors include his wife, Diane Hardin of Pinckneyville, IL; a son, Dennis A. (Cindy) Hardin of Greenwood, IN; a daughter, Trudy Westphal (Gerry Broadwell) of Kernersville, N.C.; a stepson, Brent (Mary Beth) Reese of West Frankfort, IL; his stepmother, Lauraine Hardin of Coulterville, IL; a sister, Mary McKinstry of Barnhart, MO; six grandsons who will serve as his pallbearers; two granddaughters; four great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis and Pastor Dennis Hardin officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL with graveside military rites by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
