Dennis Allen Rice's Obituary
Dennis Allen Rice, age 61, of Pinckneyville, IL passed away on Friday, December 12, 2008 at 9:40 a.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Emergency Room, Pinckneyville, IL. Denny was born on October 12, 1947 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to Homer O. and Lola P. (Feltmeyer) Rice. On January 15, 1966, he married Carolyn "Sue" Hassell in Cambria, IL and she survives. He was a coal miner for many years, but for the last 10 years had worked as a truck driver for Norrenberns Trucking, Nashville, IL. He was a member of Landmark Apostolic Church, Sparta, IL and had an inspirational love of God. He enjoyed playing guitar, tinkering out in his shop, and working with tractors and lawn mowers, especially John Deere. Denny dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife: Sue Rice of Pinckneyville, IL, mother: Lola Bird of Pinckneyville, IL, a son: Rev. Doug Rice and wife Lisa of Sparta, IL, a daughter: Dana Womick and husband Jim of Hurst, IL, a sister: Shirlene Kellerman and husband Robert of Pinckneyville, IL, a brother: David Rice of Pinckneyville, IL, five grandchildren: Mallory, Landon, Morgan, Austin, and Evan, and two great-grandchildren: Braelyn and Blake. He was preceded in death by his father: Homer O. Rice and stepfather: Orange D. Bird. Funeral services will be held at Landmark Apostolic Church, 401 North Vine, Sparta, IL on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Blake officiating. Interment will be in Campbell Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Landmark Apostolic Church, 401 North Vine, Sparta, IL on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Landmark Apostolic Church, Sparta, IL. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is handling the arrangements.
