David Stone's Obituary
David Stone, age 66, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 12:51 p.m. in his home.
David was born on December 10, 1952 in Marshall Browning Hospital, DuQuoin, IL, a son of Jacky Ray and Delores Dorett (Davison) Stone. On October 11, 1975, he married Mary Kellerman at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. David first worked at Consol Coal for 23 years then at the age of 44, he earned his bachelor's degree in Industrial Management and took a job with Maytag, Herrin, IL where he worked for 12 years before retiring. Later, he served as a City Commissioner for the City of Pinckneyville. David had previously served on the Pinckneyville District 50 School Board for 4 years and currently served on the Pinckneyville Public Library Board. He was a very talented individual and enjoyed doing many things like hunting, fishing, pencil sketches, landscaping, and building and refinishing furniture. David took great joy in sitting on the porch swing on the back deck and loved coaching his kids in sports, especially baseball, softball and basketball, spending time with his grandchildren, attending their activities, and taking them for rides on the golf cart with PaPa.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary Stone of Pinckneyville, IL; parents, Jack and Dorett Stone of Pinckneyville, IL; a son, Jason Stone of St. Peters, MO; a daughter, Jill (Bryan) Funk of DuQuoin, IL; a brother, Tom (Shari) Stone of Freeburg, IL; a sister, Debbie (Chuck Smith) Stone of New Bern, NC; three grandchildren, Lucan Stone, Kelby Funk, and Gannyn Funk; numerous aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Emily Davison and James and Mae Stone; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rudolph and Ella Kellerman; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Kellerman.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Jay Lowder and Brother Mark Lee officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alpha-1 Foundation or Pinckneyville Sports Park.
