Darroll R. Marlow's Obituary
Darroll R. Marlow, age 78, of Tamaroa, IL, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 2:48 a.m. in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Carbondale, IL.
Darroll was born on October 3, 1942 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to Clarence Orville and Beulah Emily (Watts) Marlow. Darroll was employed in the bookkeeping department at Spartan Printing, Sparta, IL from 1966 until the plant closed its doors in 1992. He served the company for a total of twenty six years. During his time of employment at Spartan Printing, he was selected employee of the month on at least one occasion.
Darroll was a lifelong member of the Nine Mile Baptist Church, Tamaroa, IL. He gave faithfully to his church as well as several other charities. Darroll loved the outdoors, tinkering with small engines and taking care of the home that he loved and helped to construct. His very active role in building the home was remarkable, considering the fact that he had been an amputee since the age of ten. His determination and agility on crutches enabled him to climb ladders and scaffolding, carry drywall and other building materials alongside others with no physical disabilities. Darroll also had an active sense of humor. For example, he was a fan of Nascar, as long as Jeff Gordon was in the lineup. He also loved old movies, especially those starring Doris Day. He liked her because, as he phrased it, "she was never slutty."
Survivors include a brother, Roger (Alice) Marlow of Fisher, IL; two sisters, Ramona (Dustin) Hatch of Pinckneyville, IL and Marilyn (Willis) Gerlach of Schuline, IL; two granddaughters, Tabatha Hofstetter of Charleston, SC and Heather Marlow of Birmingham, AL; a great-grandson, Mathew Hofstetter of Charleston, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
Darroll was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Darren Paul Marlow.
