Darla Sue Hicks' Obituary
Darla Sue Hicks, age 47, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 1:46 p.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL.
Darla was born on March 24, 1973 in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to Lowell David and Donna Sue (Kuhnert) Hicks. She was a member of Beaucoup Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. She loved going to church and the congregation enjoyed hearing her singing along to the hymns. In her lifetime, Darla never let her physical limitations stop her from giving and receiving joy and love. She was always so aware and never missed a thing. Darla relished her role as a big sister and aunt and was so excited about being an aunt again soon because she loved babies, especially her nieces and nephews. One of her greatest joys was music, especially gospel hymns like "Oh How I Love Jesus" by Alan Jackson and the silly songs her family sang for her. Darla never cared for patriotic or Michael Landon's music much but otherwise, she always smiled so big and sang along when her family sang for her. She dearly loved her brothers. Her face would light up with even just the mention of them and always loved hearing them play guitars and sing. Both sets of her grandparents were a special part of her life and she also loved her extended family, every aunt, uncle and cousin. She loved jewelry and it wasn't a Christmas or birthday if she didn't get jewelry. Darla enjoyed her music boxes, her favorite stuffed rabbit, Jack, amusement park rides, especially the Tilt-A-Whirl, and talking on the phone to her grandma, her brothers and her aunts.
Survivors include her parents, David and Donna Hicks of Pinckneyville, IL; two brothers and their families, Dirk (Jazmine) Hicks of Hillsboro, MO and their children, Evie Sue, Natalie Anne, and Tucker Nash Hicks and Darin (Katie) Hicks of Tamaroa, IL, their daughter, Josie Ann Hicks and the baby they are expecting soon; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Les and Iola Kuhnert and Lowell and Josie Hicks; one aunt, Diane Gibbs, one uncle, Charles Gibbs and two cousins, Jason Elam and Ashley Beck.
