Coralena Kay "Connie" Ramsey's Obituary
Coralena Kay "Connie" Ramsey, age 76, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 2:45 p.m. in Memorial Hospital Carbondale, Carbondale, IL.
Connie was born on March 26, 1947 in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to Clyde Elmer and Belva Delores (Crain) Birkner. On January 21, 1968, she married Raymond Lloyd Ramsey at Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, IL and he survives, together they shared 55 years of marriage.
Connie was a 1965 graduate of Pinckneyville Community High School. She attended beauty school and was a hairdresser at Connie's Beauty Shop for a couple of years. She was a stay at home mom and then went to work at Nascote, Tums/Uni and finally worked for Dollar General for over 25 years.
Connie had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in DuQuoin, Women of the Moose and Eagles Auxiliary.
She was the 1964 Mardi Gras Queen and helped with the pageant for several years after that. While her kids where on the swim team she was an active board member and parent. She volunteered at the Swanwick Picnic for many years and she was part of the Huff and Puff volleyball team in the 1980's.
Connie was very creative, she decorated cakes, painted ceramics, made clothes, and loved doing puzzles and playing FreeCell in her free time. Connie loved coupon day at the Dollar General Store.
Survivors include her husband, Ray; three children, Heather Lee of Pinckneyville, IL, Amanda Hepp of Pinckneyville, IL, and Michael (Krystal) Ramsey of Murphysboro, IL; her mother, Belva Birkner of Pinckneyville, IL; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Emily) Higgerson, Christopher (Kimberly) Higgerson, Coral Ramsey, Caylin (Marcus Weiss) Koch, Joshua Koch, Cameron Hepp, Jackson Ramsey, and Elizabeth Ramsey; three great grandchildren, Nolan, Parker and Calvin Higgerson; a sister, Velda Clydine (Everett Moore) Hardin; in-laws, Shirley (Don) Wylie, Grover (Shirley) Ramsey, Lois Folden, Randy (Debbie) Ramsey, Glenda Gilter, and lots of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; one son-in-law, Tim Lee, two brothers-in-law, Larry Hardin and Bob Gilter.
Funeral services will be at St. Paul U.C.C. Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jon Birkner officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at St. Paul U.C.C. Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to SIH Cancer Institute and Wright-Way Rescue Shelter.
