Charles Patrick Jenne's Obituary
Charles Patrick Jenne, 72, of Coulterville, Illinois, passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, June 17, 2024, following a recent cancer diagnosis.
Pat was born on June 1, 1952, in Granite City, IL to James Richard and Morine Elmyra Jenne. He graduated from Coulterville High School in 1970. He married Ronna Dee [nee O'Rear] on October 23, 1971, and together, they raised three children in the "Love Shack."
A service is planned for 11 a.m. on Monday, June 24, at the Coulterville United Methodist Church, where he was a member and served as treasurer for eight years. The Rev. Christine Lippert will officiate. Visitation with the family will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Pat was a Union man through and through, working as a coal miner with the United Mine Workers Association at Peabody's Pit 6 and Arch Minerals' Captain and Horse Creek mines and as an Operating Engineer (Local 520) for over 53 years. As a farmer, he loved operating machines of any kind and even learned to fly, soloing shortly after high school. Self-described as "the Jerry Seinfeld of southern Illinois," he was a lover of trivia, a St. Louis Cardinals fan, grill master, hot dog connoisseur and a "plain, nuthin' on it" order-er. He was wholly devoted to the music of the Beatles and was proud to say he was one of the 23,143 fans who saw the band's 30-minute concert at Busch Stadium on August 21, 1966, as a 14-year-old. Pat had a big heart for his community, serving as a volunteer EMT and fire fighter and member of the Lion's Club and Coulterville Historical Society. He was a Shriner and Master Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ronna; daughter, Kimberly of Columbia, MO; son, Matthew [Tori] Jenne of Warrenton, MO; daughter, Kristen [Al] Yancey, who are parents of the two best grandchildren ever, Paige Evelyn and Thomas Patrick of Minooka, IL; sister, Jeanette [Art] De Los Santos of North Augusta, SC; nephew, Jim [Megan] Jenne of Wentzville, MO; nephew, A.J. De Los Santos of Austin, TX; niece, Amber [Jamie] Hitchcock of Harlem, GA; the best "outlaw" family in the world including Susan [Bill] Kohring of Coulterville, IL; Mike O'Rear of Nashville, IL; Kelly [Mike] Parkinson of Coulterville, IL; and a pack of nieces and nephews that he adored above all things - Ranae [Craig] Reehten of St. Louis, MO; Sharie [Rob] Cradduck of O'Fallon, IL; Josh [Kari Haller] Kohring of Coulterville, IL; Amanda Kohring of Mascoutah, IL; Calvin [Lindsay] O'Rear of Nashville, IL; Lucas [Kate] O'Rear of Winterset, IA; Sarah [Nick] Beck of O'Fallon, IL; David [Kate] Parkinson of Coulterville, IL; Nathan [Megan Schmiskie] Parkinson of Troy, IL; and 19 of the cutest great-nieces and nephews you ever saw.
To the very end, Pat considered himself deeply lucky to have the best of friends, most of whom he considered family and many whom he had known since junior high. A special thanks to the couple's lifelong friends, Doyce and Cyndy Tabing and Bill and Linda Mueller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Morine Jenne; parents-in-law, Charles and Roxie O'Rear; sister-in-law, Monica O'Rear; and nephew, James Kohring.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Coulterville United Methodist Church, PO Box 588, Coulterville IL 62237-0588.
