Cdr. Margaret Rose Ruppert, NC USN (ret)'s Obituary
Navy Commander Margaret Rose Ruppert, age 101, of Lisle, IL, passed away on February 20, 2017 at 10:50 p.m. in Edward Hospital, Naperville, IL. Margaret Ruppert was born on April 11, 1915 in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to George and Louise (Schneider) Ruppert. In 1943, Margaret graduated from St.John's Hospital Nursing School, St. Louis University and in 1960 she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Service Administration at Indiana University. Cdr. Ruppert retired after 30 years in the United States Navy Nurse Corps. She served in World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War and in many Navy hospitals and air stations including Great Lakes, IL; Oakland, CA; Bainbridge, MD; Newport, RI; Guantanamo, Cuba; Chelsea, MA; Jacksonville, FL; Beaufort, SC; Long Beach, CA; Adak, AL; and on the naval ships, USNS General Aultman and USNS General Wm. H. Gordon. Margaret was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL, a charter member of Women in Military Service, a lifetime member of Great Lakes NNCA and a member of Navy Nurse Corps Association, Military Officers Association of America, Gulf Coast NNCA, US Naval Memorial, Washington D.C., the American Legion, Indiana U. Alumni Association, Pi Lamda Theta and St. Benedict Education Foundation. Survivors include her nephews, Albert "Bud" Ruppert and William T. (Joan) Ruppert; nieces, Louise Ruppert Grobl, Grace Anne Ruppert Casillas, Cecelia Ruppert Barkley, and Joan Ruppert Oetking. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Charles Ruppert and George Ruppert both in infancy, Albert Ruppert, William Ruppert and Joseph Ruppert; and two sisters, Cecelia Ruppert and Magdeline Mann. Funeral Mass will be held at St Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Augustine Ibezimako officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Military rites performed by the United States Navy and the Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Rosary will be recited on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Albert L.
