Carolyn "Jo Ann" Parsell's Obituary
Carolyn "Jo Ann" Greer Parsell, age 81, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 2:15 p.m. at the Stonecrest Hospital in Smyrna, TN. She was the fourth child born to Russel J. and Carolyn Marie (Bahre) Greer.
Jo Ann was born on May 20, 1943, in DuQuoin, IL. On September 1, 1963 she married Ronald L. Parsell at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, IL. Jo Ann was a homemaker kept busy raising five children. In middle age, she went back to school and obtained her RN license. She served as an ER and OB/GYN nurse at Murphysboro Community Hospital, then Washington County Hospital in Nashville, IL and eventually at Perry County Home Health. Jo Ann and her husband Ron were members of the St. Louis Show Me Corvair Club, Prairie State Corvair Club, and the International Corsa Corvair Club where they were able to show off Corvairs that Ron had rebuilt and appreciate the work of others. She enjoyed quilting with her mother and sister and at community quilting events. She remained busy with all types of needlecrafts and sewing for her children, grandchildren and especially enjoyed making quilts for her great-grandchildren.
Jo Ann is survived by her four children: Marjorie (Craig) Maske of Plantersville, TX; Lyman (Jamie) Parsell of Smyrna, TN; Jeffery Parsell of Memphis, TN; and Kevin Parsell of Idaville, IN; thirteen grandchildren: Thomas (Kayla) Maske of Corsicana, TX; Trevor Maske of Plantersville, TX; Madeline Maske of San Antonio, TX; Laina (Michael) Shearon of Hopkinsville, KY; Kayla (Jet) Colson of Mt. Juliet, TN; Mylie Parsell of Smyrna, TN; Stormie Parsell of Smyrna, TN; Devon Schubert of Pinckneyville, IL; Ryker Parsell of Layfette, IN; "RJ" Parsell of Idaville, IN; and Candace Parsell of Idaville, IN; adopted grandsons: Braydon Schubert of Tamaroa, IL; Landon Schubert of Tamaroa, IL; eight great-grandchildren: Reuben Shearon, Remi Shearon, Thea Colson, Hazel Colson, Titus Colson, Mera Colson, Owen Maske, and Calvin Maske; sister in law, Roberta Greer of Pinckneyville, IL; two brothers, Marian (Joyce) Greer of Coulterville, IL, and Charles (Mary) Greer of Pinckneyville; one brother-in-law, Larry (Lorri) Parsell of Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald "Ron" L. Parsell; son, Ronald J. Parsell; daughter-in-law, LaVonda Parsell; sister, Janet Kocian; brother, Dale Greer, sister in law, Barbara Greer, and brother in law, William P. Kocian.
Funeral service will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL, on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Michael Shearon officiating. Interment will be at Swanwick Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL.
Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
