Carl William Roethe's Obituary
Carl William Roethe, age 96, of Pinckneyville, IL died on Sunday, July 30, 2006 in the Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Nashville, IL at 8:10 p.m. Carl was born in Pinckneyville, IL on April 5, 1910 the son of Otto J. and Christina (Beck) Roethe. He married Edna Krug on December 19, 1936 in Dwight, IL and to this union two children were born. Edna preceded him in death on May 1, 1963. He then married Isabelle Masters on May 27, 1967 and she preceded him in death on March 30, 2004. He spent eleven years in the oil drilling fields of Montana, Wyoming and Illinois. Carl operated Roethe Brothers Ice Cream Store from 1947 to 1954. He then became the plant manager at the My-T-Fine Pudding Plant in Pinckneyville, IL until his retirement in 1974. Carl was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he served numerous offices and taught Sunday school and was a member of the Pinckneyville Hospital Board, the Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce where he served as president, Perry County Senior Citizens, and Pinckneyville Lions Club. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Luman and husband Rodger of Peoria, IL, a daughter-in-law, Betty Roethe of DuQuoin, IL, three step-sons, Tod Masters and wife Janet of Joliet, Terry Masters and wife Judy of Joliet, and David Masters and wife Nora of Maui, HI, two sisters-in-law, Hilda Roethe of Pinckneyville, IL and Dorothy Roethe of Columbia, IL, thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, a son, Richard, a sister, Mildred Ziegler, three brothers, Ervin, Walter, and Herbert and a step-daughter-in-law, Janet Masters. Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Mark Willig officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, DuQuoin, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. and then on Friday at Zion Luthern Church from 9:00 a.m. till 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville.
