Carl Raymond Jones, Sr.'s Obituary
Carl Raymond Jones, Sr., age 85, of DuQuoin, IL, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 5:53 p.m. in Western Baptist Hospital, Paducah, KY with his wife, children, and grandchildren at his bedside. Carl was born on June 16, 1923 in St. John's, IL, a son to Carl Guy and Pearl Renese (Elder) Jones. He was a veteran of the United States Army obtaining the rank of Tech. Sergeant and serving during World War II for 33 months in the South Pacific Theater, 32nd Red Arrow Division in the Philippines. On June 14, 1942, he married Dora Carmelia Urbain in Perryville, MO and she survives. He was a 45 year member of the First United Pentecostal Church, DuQuoin, IL where he served as a song leader for 25 years. Before entering military service he worked at a golf course and for the railroad, after his service he worked for 35 years at the Blue Bell Packing Company, DuQuoin, IL. He was a member of AFLCIO Local #156, an avid gardener and fisherman, a published poet and enjoyed writing poetry and songs and telling stories and jokes, loved DuQuoin history, and dearly loved his wife of 66 years. Survivors include his wife: Dora Jones of DuQuoin, IL, nine children: Mary Pearl Rogers of Cutler, IL, Lydia (Jim) Penson of Royalton, IL, Marsha McKinnies of Ziegler, IL, Carl J. Jones, Jr. of DuQuoin, IL, Clarence (Ruth) Jones of Bradenton, FL, Debbie (Wayne) Harris of DuQuoin, IL, Janice Siefert of DuQuoin, IL, June (Donald) Caraway of Murphysboro, IL, and Lisa Dewar of DuQuoin, IL, a brother: Clarence (Wanda) Jones of DuQuoin, IL, twenty-six grandchildren: Dashawna Rae Leggans, LeTrevis Rae Hinkle, LaDeanna Rae Farris, Rachel Penson, Jimmy Penson, Dorcas Penson, Kristy Lynn Carter, Johnnie McKinnies, Carl Gregory Jones, Jeremy Jones, Andy Jones, Justin Lyle Roberts, Amber Nicole Garris, Donnie Caraway, Shane Caraway, Josh Caraway, Justin Caraway, Zachary Dewar, Allanna Wilson, Tarrissa Litton, Jared Guy Jones, Wayne Dean Harris, Amanda Lucrica Lemons, Ashley Michele Harris, Michael E. Draege, II, and Nicholas CJ Draege, forty-three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Jospehine Lamb and Maude Harris King, a brother: Eugene Jones, four grandchildren: Robin Hinkle in infancy, Carlenea Eggers, Darrin Hinkle, and James Matthew Dewar, and two great-grandchildren: Hannah Lynn Carter and Stephen Samuel Lee Carter. Funeral services will be held at the First United Pentecostal Church, DuQuoin, IL on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dan McKinnies officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, DuQuoin, IL. Friends may call at the First United Pentecostal Church, DuQuoin, IL on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to his beloved wife of 66 years.
