Carl O. Hagler's Obituary
Carl O. Hagler, age 89, of Desoto, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 6:45 a.m. in Landmark Hospital, Cape Girardeau, MO. Carl was born on September 23, 1927 in Makanda, IL, a son to Earl and Ruth (Boals) Hagler. On July 1, 1950, he married Erma Lackman in Royalton, IL and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2011. For over 50 years, Carl along with his wife Erma were owners and operators of the family business, H&M Salvage which later became H&M Rentals. He was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly servicing his country during WW II. Carl was a member of Boskydell Baptist Church, was an avid collector of many things including old cars and could fix anything. He liked to say he was a "jack of all trades but a master of none". Carl enjoyed card games, going out to eat a good meal with good pie for dessert. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Survivors include four children, Linda (Howard "Butch") Hicks of Desoto, IL, Joyce (Dennis) Watson of Harrisburg, IL, Susan (Ron) Blumenstock of Desoto, IL and Janet (Terry) Wright of Elkville, IL; seven grandchildren, Sheila (Darren) Snyder, Amy (W.A.) Taylor, Sherry (Steve) Jeschke, Michelle (Daniel) Davis, Alicia (Robert) Lorenz, Kyle Blumenstock and Shelly (Keith) Aldridge; fourteen great-grandchildren, Hayden, Jayden, Montana, Gracie, Andrew, Gabrielle, Abigail, Sarai, Micah, Levi, Noah, Genevieve, Kolton and Kinsley one sister, Patricia Stearns (Don Burgrabe) of Marion, IL and a girlfriend, Sheila Jolly. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Erma Hagler, step-mother, Dorothy Hagler and one brother, Earl "Junior" Winfield. Graveside services will be held at Lipe Cemetery, Makanda, IL on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Paul Hicks officiating. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Lipe Cemetery, Makanda, IL. Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
