Brad Owen's Obituary
Marion Bradford "Brad" Owen, age 79, of Tamaroa, IL, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 1:15 p.m. in Herrin Hospital, Herrin, IL. Brad was born on April 30, 1937 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Waldo and Opal (Davis) Owen. On November 1, 1960, he married June Bossle in Missouri and she survives. He later married Betty Joanne Chandler on May 27, 1979 in St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. Brad was a member of Holts Prairie Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL and was a cost accountant at SIU Carbondale, retiring after 33 years. Brad was an expert at working on VW cars, successful racing go carts, winning many races, working on stock car engines and loved going to tractor pulls. He used his accounting skills to prepare tax return in his spare time for others. Brad loved being a grandpa and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Betty Joanne Owen of Tamaroa, IL; five sons, Kevin (Marilyn) Owen of Flowery Branch, GA, Jeffrey (Shannon) Owen of Auburn, GA, Eric (Shelley) Owen of Winder, GA, Mark (Melinda) Pierce of Sesser, IL and Kenny (Kelli) Pierce of Pinckneyville, IL; three daughters, Cathy (Bill) Long of Fairhope, AL, Kim (Danny) Martin of Pinckneyville, IL and Dana (Jeff) Carter of DuQuoin, IL; twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene (Paula) Owen of Steeleville, Il and Stanley (Julie) Hubler of Benton, IL; five sisters, Darlene (Marvin) Sero of Duluth, MN, June Hubler of DuQuoin, IL, Susie (Bob) Wilson of Sparta, IL and Sandy (Don) Oyler of Pinckneyville, Il and Linda (Roy) Despain of Coulterville, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marlene Dinges and one great-grandson in infancy, Braxton Long. Funeral services will be held at Holts Prairie Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Collin Hirsch and Reverend Mark Pierce officiating. Interment will be in Holts Prairie Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at Holts Prairie Baptist Church from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Sesser Church of God Benevolent Fund, Sesser, IL.
