Blanche I. "Sam" Wine's Obituary
Blanche I. "Sam" Wine, 94, of Coulterville passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, IL.
Sam was born January 16, 1929 in Swanwick, IL, a daughter to Herbert and Ellen (McCrary) Marlow.
She was a 1947 graduate of Coulterville High School. She worked for 12 years at the Coulterville dress factory, owned and operated Sam and Faye's Style Shoppe with her best friend Faye Gimber for 8 years. Later she returned to the dress factory in Pinckneyville for 10 years and then retired from Sparta Light Metal Products in Sparta, IL. after 19 years.
She has been a life-long member of the Coulterville V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, loved playing bingo and pinochle, attending all of her grandchildren's sporting events, and watching Cub's baseball games. Sam's biggest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sherri (Steve) Horner, Kimberly Scaggs, and one son, Scott (Marilyn) Wine, all of Coulterville, IL; Seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Murry) Knope, Justin Murry, Rob (Jenny) Horner, Jeanine (Dustin) Hess, Katy Wine (James Roddy), Cale (Chelsey) Wine, and Kara Wine (Gerry) Dmochowski; nine great-grandchildren, Reagan and Ryan Horner, Trey and Brielle Hess, Blaine Knope, Dru and Ivy Roddy, Rafe Wine, Maeve and soon to be little sister Dmochowski; one sister, Dean Thomas of Sparta, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Olga Lowe, two brothers, Loren (Bud) Marlow, (who nicknamed her Sam when she was a toddler and obviously the name stuck!), and Melvin Marlow.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL, on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Kim Jenne officiating. Interment will be at Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL.
Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL, on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Coulterville V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.
