Bernice Mathis' Obituary
Bernice Mary Mathis, age 82, of Pinckneyville, IL passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 11:05 a.m. in her home. Bernice was born on January 6, 1926 in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to Frank and Sophie Rose (Kujawa) Ladendecker. In 1944, she married Forrest Mathis in Pinckneyville, IL and he preceded her in death on November 5, 1988. She was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, had worked at the Garment Factory and later at Decca Records for 32 years, and was a former member of the Eagles Ladies Auxillary, Women of the Moose, Catholic Daughters, and a member of Service Employees International Union. Survivors include a son: Fred (Ruth) Mathis of Pinckneyville, IL, four daughters: Trudy (Tony) Ruffino of Pinckneyville, IL, Carolyn (Ron) Shaw of Pinckneyville, IL , Joyce (Mike) Eisenhauer of Herrin, IL, and Rose (Eddie) Carson of Pinckneyville, IL, a brother: Paul Ladendecker of Nashville, IL, three sisters: Helen Kellerman of Pinckneyville, IL, Francis Hutchings of Pinckneyville, IL, and Rose Degenhardt of Rice, IL, fourteen grandchildren: Steve (Sara) Shaw, Rhonda Shaw, Kristi (Scott) Bolen, Lori (Scott) Ellis, Ashley Eisenhauer, Rob (Angie) Holder, Jimmy (Pam) Holder, Aaron Lemons, Jamey (Toni) Carson, Zeno (Kendra) Carson, Alexis Carson, Andy (Amanda) Gewe, Chaz Ruffino, and Cammi Ruffino, and a special family friend: Dillon Jenkel, eleven great-grandchildren: Eli Shaw, Kelby Shaw, Ava Shaw, Trevor Bolen, Kiefer Bolen, Josey Holder, Jesse Griffiths, Ashley Holder, Jessica Holder, Ashlyn Carson, and Jada Hoepker, a brother-in-law: Charles Pete Mathis, a sister-in-law: Lorraine "Nane" Blumm, and many nephews, nieces,cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: John Ladendecker, Ed Ladendecker, and Frank Ladendecker, three sisters: Catherine Scherle, Irene Robinart, Catherine Ladendecker, in infancy. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Brian Barker officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:30 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Luke Memorial Hospice, Pinckneyville, IL or to masses.
