Bernard John Schubert's Obituary
Mr. Bernard John Schubert of Pinckneyville, IL, departed this life on Friday October 21, 2016 at7:25 a.m. at home surrounded by his family. He had attained the age of 94 years, 3 months and 5 days.
Mr. Schubert was born on the family farm in rural Tamaroa IL, the oldest son of John Albert Schubert and Catherine (Bathon) Schubert. He married Catherine (Liszewski) Schubert on May 19, 1945, St Francis DeSales Church, St. Louis MO. Mr. Schubert was a member of St Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL, the Polish American War Veterans of Caseyville, IL and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Mr. Schubert was an avid outdoorsman having hunted and fished throughout Southern Illinois and neighboring states his entire life and also hunted big game in the Colorado Rockies for over 50 years. He was a WWII veteran and served in the Army Air Corp, achieving the rank of TSgt. Mr. Schubert was an entrepreneur having owned and operated a lumber yard in DuBois, IL, Black Top Tavern, DuBois, IL, and the motel and truck stop north of Pinckneyville, IL on State Route 127. He retired from Illinois Department of Transportation after 23 years. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 71 yrs, children: John (Sheila) Schubert, Nashville, IL, Bernard James (Lala) Schubert, Belleville, IL, David Joseph (Kathy) Schubert, Gillette, WY, Mark (Kerry) Schubert, New Philadelphia, OH and Cathy (Dr. Ralph) Chapman, Pinckneyville, IL., 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Chad Willard Schubert; brothers Clarence Schubert, Fred Schubert and sisters Dorothy Sherman; Clara Schubert and Rosella Schubert; sisters-in-law, Bertha Kozuszek, Helen Sherman and Barbara Lesko. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, October, 24,2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL with Fr. Augustine Ibezimako officiating. Internment at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Cemetery, Todd's Mill, IL, with military honors accorded by Army and Polish American War Veterans. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Monday at Pyatt Funeral Home from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Memorial Donations may be made to Masses or St. Bruno Catholic School.
