Bernard O. "Barney" Schneider's Obituary
Bernard O. "Barney" Schneider, age 89, of DuQuoin, IL passed away on Monday, February 25, 2008 at Fairview Nursing Home in DuQuoin. Barney was born on June 15, 1918 in DuQuoin, a son to Oscar and Elizabeth (Hemmer) Schneider. On August 31, 1939, he married Mildred L. Ivester in DuQuoin and she survives. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, and was employed as a coal miner for 41 years at Kathleen Mine, Truex Mine, Freeman #3, and United Electric Mine. He was a member of UMWA and a former member of the Elks of Benton and DuQuoin. Barney was a master of the building trade, having designed and built five homes over his lifetime. He took great pride in seeing the job well done. Survivors include his wife: Mildred Schneider of DuQuoin, a son: Jerry (Penny) Schneider of Edmond, OK, five grandchildren: Renee Ann (Tim) Burdel of Tamaroa, IL, Janie Lee (Buddy) Shute of Pinckneyville, IL, Tanya (Ken) Adamson of Seattle, WA, Casey Walling of Tampa, FL, and January Schneider of Edmond, OK, three great-grandchldren: Tiara Adamson, Kenan Adamson, and Madison Walling, a sister-in-law: Maxine Geistdorfer, a brother-in-law: Richard Ivester, a special nephew: Gary (Jean) Pyle and a nephew: Kevin Pyle. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Rick Schneider, and a sister, Wilma Messick. Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, DuQuoin, IL at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2008, with Father Harry Jerome officiating. Interment will be in Elkville Cemetery. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
