Barney Tony Powell's Obituary
Barney Tony Powell, age 76, of Coulterville, IL, died Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 1:11 p.m. at his residence. Barney was born in East St. Louis, IL on July 18, 1930, a son of Walter Raleigh and Edna (Radvigewski) Powell, Sr. He married Patsey Joyce Stief on March 2, 1950 in East St. Louis and she survives. He was baptized Catholic, served with the U. S. Army during World War II, was a member of the Coulterville V. F. W., enjoyed his work as a self-employed carpenter, loved spending time with his family, and looked forward to spending time with his coffee drinking buddy's, especially his good friend George Kirkland. Survivors include his wife: Joyce of Coulterville, a daughter: Pamela Helbig, and her husband, Dennis, Sr., of Coulterville, three grandchildren: Dennis Helbig, Jr., and his wife, Heather, of Carlinville, IL, Erin and Jacob Helbig of Coulterville, two great-grandchildren: Brittany and Lauren, ten brothers and sisters, along with numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Gary Lee Powell, and four brothers. Barney's wishes were to be cremated following his death. No services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Coulterville V. F. W. or the American Heart Association. Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Coulterville, is in charge of arrangements.
