August L. "Augie" Epplin, age 79, of Okawville, IL, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on December 31, 2015, in the Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pinckneyville, IL at 6:19 p.m. following his battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Augie was born in Pinckneyville, IL, on May 29, 1936, the son of Victor and Elizabeth (Stein) Epplin. He married Laura J. Mohr on March 3, 1962, in the St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville and she preceded him in death on November 17, 2000. He then married Sandra L. Rennegarbe on November 29, 2002, in the Immanual Lutheran Church in Okawville, IL, and she survives. Augie was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany from 1959 to 1961 He worked as a mechanic during the construction of Baldwin Power Plant in Baldwin, IL, and at the Consolidated Coal Central Shop in Pinckneyville, IL, before retiring. Augie had a passion for farming and enjoyed his time working his land. He also enjoyed life, tinkering, fixing things and liked spending time with family and friends. Augie was a member of the St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, the U.M.W.A., and the Okawville Community Club. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, of Okawville, IL, 2 sons; Greg Epplin and wife Julia of Apex, N.C., and Kent Epplin and wife Kelly of Pinckneyville, IL. a daughter, Connie Keene and husband Thorn of Peoria, IL, 2 step-sons; Jeff Rennegarbe and wife Richelle of Nashville, IL, Greg Rennegarbe and wife Stephanie of Addeville, IL; a step-daughter, Lori Heckert and husband Jeff of Venedy, IL; a sister Virginia Flure and husband George of Pinckneyville, IL; 8 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura, his parents, 2 brothers, Leonard Epplin and twin brother, Victor Epplin, and a step-grandson and buddy, Nicholas Rennegarbe. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Augustine Ibezimako officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL with military graveside rites by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday morning at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A prayer service will be held on Monday at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family's wishes are that memorial donations be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, Okawville Community Club or St. Bruno Catholic School.
