Audrey F. Walker's Obituary
Audrey F. Walker, age 96, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in New Athens Home for the Aged, New Athens, IL.
Audrey was born on June 27, 1925 in Coulterville, IL, a daughter to James H. and Velma M. (Walker) Sharp. On December 29, 1942, she married Troy L. Walker and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2001. After marrying Troy, an Army hitchhiker, Audrey was able to travel with him to Army bases in New England until he was sent overseas. After the war, they settled in Coulterville, IL, and spent the next fifty-nine years. After Troy passed, Audrey lived in the home until she moved to Cedar Trails Assisted Living Center in Freeburg and then to the New Athens Home for the Aged.
During their years together, Audrey and Troy were avid campers with their children and grandchildren. On an early road trip, they visited Bennett Spring State Park in Missouri and camped there every year as many as they were able to. Many family memories come from the years of camping at Bennett, and the tradition continues with her children and grandchildren.
During the Coulterville years, Audrey was a charter member of the Women's Club and a longtime member of the pinochle club.
Audrey was very creative and talented in many art forms, sketching, oil painting, water coloring, clay miniatures, china painting, sewing, and wood working. Her family has many examples of her works of art.
She will be missed and remembered by all family members.
Survivors include her three children, Judy (Don) Harrison of New Cambria, MO, Ron (Laurie) Walker of Mesquite, TX, and Dan (fiancé, Laura) Walker of Smithton, IL; nine grandchildren, Jeff (Janice), Lisa (Steve), Katie, Grace, Liz (Travis), Ellen, Alex, Lydia (Chad), and Claire; and five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Loren, James, Ryan, and Lauren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Velma Sharp; and husband, Troy Walker.
A graveside service will be held at Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Ron Mazander officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Home of the aged, New Athens, IL or Vitas Hospice.
