Anthony "Tony" Knope's Obituary
Anthony D. "Tony" Knope, 58, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, in Heartland Care and Rehabilitation Center, Cape Girardeau, MO.
Tony was born on August 18, 1966, in Sparta, IL. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sparta, IL. Tony was a hard worker, loved by family and friends for his thoughtfulness, sense of humor and loyalty. He played basketball and baseball and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, and fishing and excelled at both. He was a member of both B.A.S.S., Bass Anglers Sportsman Society and the Kinkaid Lake Bass Club. He also enjoyed playing golf. And added to that wide range, his talents and interests included a stint at modeling and a readiness always to help his dad with cattle and hay. They went to cattle auctions together to get Tony a start with his own herd.
After suffering a devastating head injury from a motorcycle accident, he eventually regained his witty sense of humor and his delight in being with family as often as possible to share it, along with his enduring love for them. Through the generosity and hard work of AAL of St. John Lutheran Church to update living space for Tony's needs, he was able to live at home for three years.
He is survived by his father, Glen E. (Jeannette) Knope of Baldwin, IL; his mother, SuAnne Griese Lopata of Chicago, IL; one sister, Monica Eldredge of Largo, FL; one niece, Paige Eldredge of Chicago, IL; one nephew, Dakota Eldredge of Edwardsville, IL; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
