Alberta June Cox's Obituary
Alberta June Cox, age 97, of Baldwin, IL, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 1:16 a.m. in New Athens Home of The Aged, New Athens, IL. Alberta was born on July 13, 1919 in Carbondale, IL, a daughter to Alex and Susie (Lauer) Benz. On October 7, 1950, she married Norman Russell Cox in Carbondale, IL and he preceded her in death on February 4, 2008. Alberta had been a school teacher at Sparta Grade School and an office worker for Carbondale Creamery. She was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Sparta, IL. She enjoyed sewing quilts, traveling, playing cards, reading, keeping a daily diary and going to Sparta Senior Center every day they were open. Survivors include one son, Gerald Cox of Baldwin, IL and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer and Marguerite Benz and Raymond and Stella Benz; and one sister, Mildred Benz. A graveside service will be held at Hill Prairie Cemetery, Sparta, IL on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Sam Foskey and Pastor Dave Hoffelmeyer officiating. Friends may call at Hill Prairie Cemetery, Sparta, IL on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, Bald Knob Cross of Peace or Sparta Senior Center. Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
