Alan Dale Horner's Obituary
Alan Dale Horner, age 64, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 9:24 a.m. in his home. Alan was born on January 5, 1951 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to Charles Dale and Nellie (Chapman) Horner. On May 1, 1971, he married Janet Burris in the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army, Proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. Alan was a member of Clarmin Baptist Church, Clarmin, IL, worked as a coal miner at Zeigler #11, Mine, Coulterville, IL, retiring after 20 years and was a member of UMWA Local #2161. He also worked at Spartan Printing, Sparta, IL for 10 years, worked on the family farm with his father-in-law, Warren Burris and had been a volunteer fireman on the Coulterville Fire Department. Alan enjoyed traveling on the motorcycle with his wife and special friends, hunting, gun collecting, and spending time with his four grandsons and his family, Survivors include his wife, Janet Horner of Coulterville, IL; one son, Rodney (Kelly) Horner of Tilden, IL; four grandchildren, Wesley Horner, Jeremy Horner, Jesse Horner and Andrew Horner; two brothers, Steve (Sherri) Horner of Coulterville, IL and Frank (Jeanie) Horner of Dyersburg, TN; one sister, Karla Phelps of Blair, IL; mother-in-law, Mildred "Mic" Burris of Coulterville, IL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dustin "Dusty" Horner; father-in-law, Warren Burris and brother-in-law, Larry Phelps. A memorial service will be held at Clarmin Baptist Church, Clarmin, IL on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Higgerson officiating. Friends may call at Clarmin Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Clarmin Baptist Church, Clarmin, IL. Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
