A. Dale Musselman's Obituary
Alva Dale Musselman, age 91, of Oakdale, IL, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 9:32 a.m. in Friendship Manor, Nashville, IL. Dale was born on September 24, 1922 in Ellwood City, PA, a son to A. Jacob and Ida Elizabeth (Thompson) Musselman. On July 20, 1950, he married Maxine Elizabeth Auld in Oakdale, IL and she preceded him in death on August 6, 2010. Dale was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the European Theater including Africa, Italy and France. He grew up in Pennsylvania, attending Wurtemburg Grade School and Lincoln High School graduating in 1940. Dale began his college career at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, earning a BS in Chemistry and Math. He continued courses in education in Kansas City, MO and earned a MS in Education from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL. Dale spent several years living in Kansas City, KS before settling in Oakdale, IL in 1956. He was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Oakdale, IL, where he served as an elder for many years,, he also served as an elder for 4 years in Kansas City for the Reformed Presbyterian Church. Dale began his working career at National Tube Mill as a tester, Kodachrome Film Processing in chemical control, taught math and chemistry at Coulterville High School for 4 years, taught math at Okawville High School for 4 years, Assistant Washington County Superintendant of Schools, Nashville, IL for 3 years, and Director of Institutional Research at Kaskaskia College for 23 years, retiring in September 1988. After his retirement, he and his wife traveled throughout the United States in a motor home, taking time to "smell the flowers", spent some winters in southern states, including Florida, Arizona and Texas, and took one trip overseas to visit in Ireland, Scotland and England. He was a member of the Raccoon Ramblers Camping Club, Centralia, IL and the Centralia Squares square dancing group. He is survived by two children, Diane Elizabeth Musselman of Agoura Hills, CA and Jim Musselman of Oakdale, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two sisters, Ruth Vogler and Elizabeth Musselman. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Oakdale, IL on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Robert Morrow and Ron Mazander officiating. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Oakdale, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Oakdale, IL on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Beaver County Christian School, Sparta Crisis Pregnancy Center or American Bible Society.
