Carl M. Baker, age 92, of Denver, CO, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012 in his home.
Carl was born on January 12, 1920 in East St. Louis, IL, a son to Joseph and Frieda Grace (Major) Baker. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. On August 11, 1955, he married Doris Aldonna Thorson in Sheldon, IA and she preceded him in death in November of 1988. In his lifetime, Carl had worked as a gemologist, musician, restaurant owner, and a hotel owner and operator. He was a very active member of Stapleton Fellowship Church, Denver, CO and was a member of the Rotary Club. He enjoyed his mountain cabin in Colorado, Big Band music, and loved regularly returning to Sullivan, IL for his high school homecoming reunion.
Survivors include eight nieces and nephews, Richard Bechtle, Sharon (Lewis) Cooper, Nancy (John) Vallino, Debra Chapman, Joseph Baker, Robert (Kim) Baker, David (Joann) Baker and Mary Alice Reibel; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Joseph H. Baker; and two sisters, Dorothy Genevieve Skinner and Mary Lou Lowe.
Memorial services were held at Stapleton Fellowship Church, Denver, CO on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Dean Hill officiating.
Graveside services will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Tim McIntyre officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stapleton Fellowship Church, Denver, CO.
