Starr Landis Gardner, age 69, of Coulterville, IL passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 1:35 a.m. in her home.
Starr was born on September 27, 1942 in East St. Louis, IL, a daughter of Earl and Reba (Milton) Allen. On March 21, 1963, she married Jim Gardner in Perryville, MO and he survives. She was employed at Zeigler Old Ben Coal Mine, Coulterville, IL for 22 years, retiring in 2001. Starr was a raised in the Baptist faith but enjoyed learning about all faiths. She enjoyed cooking, reading, antiquing, oil painting, horseback riding, motorcycles, camping, and dearly cherished the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her mother, Reba Deeke of Coulterville, IL; husband, Jim Gardner of Coulterville, IL; two sons, Jimmy (Lacy) Gardner II of Sparta, IL and Chuck Gardner (Leslie Deutschman) of Coulterville, IL; a daughter, Terry Gardner (Dwayne Kempfer) of Coulterville, IL; a very dear niece, Frankie (Tony) Warren and their son Joey “The King” of Hoyleton, IL; seven grandchildren, Chelsey Meadows-Gardner, Jimmy Gardner III, Jess Gardner, Alessa Montroy-Gardner, Ethan Montroy-Gardner, Jacob Kempfer and Jordan Kempfer; two brothers, Roger (Gail) Allen of Coulterville, IL and Dennis Allen of Willisville, IL; two sisters, Mary Lou (Tom) Gregory of Marissa, IL and Toni Grant of Sparta, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and beloved pets, Max, Bubba, and Cocoa.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandson, Levi Gardner.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Brian Hobbs officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL.
Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
